The
Greek Ferries....
If
you're trying to get from Athens to the Greek
Islands, from the Greek Islands back to Athens
or to and/or from Italy, the ferries can be a
remarkably inexpensive and fun trip.
Your
options run from deck class(staying on deck) to
an inside airplane like seats area a shared cabin
or your own private cabin. Depending on how much
comfort or discomfort you want(or can handle)
and how much you want to spend your options span
a huge range.
The
planes fly about 20 times faster than the fastest
ferries so you'll have to schedule in the time
it takes to take a ferry and decide what is more
valuable- your time or your money and then make
a decision accordingly.
Doing
a cost analysis is a little tricky as you'll have
to see what kind of specials the ferries are running(sometimes
children are free, sometimes half price or some
other discount can may be applied). If a child
is free and you're paying for two adults, then
there is a chance that you may not save any money
by taking the ferry and booking a cabin. Deck
Class will most likely save you money, but the
only way to know for sure is to check the costs
of each options and compare them.
It
looks like we're on "The Cruise of
a Lfetime", but who would guess that
it's a 1 hour $20 cruise from Lavrion to
Kea

You
can also look at the ferries as a short, relatively
inexpensive cruise. A time to unwind with plenty
of time to figure out what your next step will
be once you arrive. It's a great way to meet other
people and relax as you're ferried to your destination.
The
links to the ferry pages on the left are only
meant to give you a feel for what's available
out there. You can't book tickets on this site
but once you figure out what it is you want to
do, there are plenty of links on the right side
that will help you secure your tickets....
